Out With The Old And In With The Ancient

Norsemen may be warriors of legend. But there is a lot more to Viking culture than simply boats and battles and here in Yorkshire, 2022 has ushered in an unusual occurrence of out with the old – and in with the even older.

One of a growing number of nostalgia enthusiasts, Josh and Joanne have long been “fascinated with Nordic heritage” and much like the lifestyles of those infamous nomads, their search to find settlement had been anything but smooth sailing.

The motivation to move was a familiar one. With the duo “saving tirelessly to purchase the perfect property” and a commutable location being crucial, having formerly resided in the North East. That is until they found the “full package and beyond” at our Barley Folde development in Pocklington.

“Being part of the team at the Jorvik Viking Centre offers a unique opportunity to portray life across the region in eras gone by and Barley Folde has got a wonderful balance of being well connected to York, but also offering a gateway to the Wolds and wider countryside.

“Working as actors we didn’t expect to be able to afford the perfect property just yet and since COVID-19 has had such a huge impact on our industry, that dream seemed even further away.”

But with the assistance of Help to Buy, Josh and Joanne’s journey soon became a seamless process and the couple were even able to move in before Christmas. Celebrating the end of what previously appeared to be an “infinite voyage” in their new home ahead of the festivities.

“Not only have we been able to set down roots in an area we love, but it feels like a financial feat to finally own our first home together. We were expecting it to be quite a laborious process balancing building progress and the acquisition, but actually, it was much smoother than envisioned and now we have some security for the future.”

The couple purchased a two-floor end terrace home close to the City of York. Featuring an open plan kitchen and dining with French doors to the garden, double bedrooms, house bathroom and ample storage space. Which Josh dubs “ideal” for stowing away all of their historical attire.

“This really is something we want others to know is possible and an experience we would certainly recommend to first-time buyers. Or anyone searching for a straightforward procurement process.”

Now that they’ve had a chance to settle in, Josh and Joanne say Mulgrave Properties’ “unwavering customer service and scrupulous commitment to build-quality” was [truly] the key to finding their first home.

“We chose Mulgrave simply because we were so impressed with the standards at every stage. It was an apprehensive experience initially, however the entire team [and trusted partners] put us completely at ease and made everything as stress-free as possible.

Even after moving in everyone has made us feel at home and there have been an abundance of special moments already. We certainly look forward to many more to come.

Tak god vinr, inn hus stormannligr.” (Thanks good friends, our house is magnificent)

The Help to Buy scheme allows prospective homeowners to purchase a new-build property with 5% deposit and 75% mortgage. The remaining 20% is provided in the form of a Government equity loan, which is interest free for the first five years.

Barley Folde is perfectly positioned to help buyers take their first steps on the property ladder and achieve the dream of home ownership.

This development offers a mix of high-quality, contemporary homes with great connectivity and we are delighted that so many buyers like Josh and Joanne have found their dream dwelling.
