A Welcomed Return to Shipton

Locals celebrated the commencement of our second development, The Galtres, showcasing 10x 2, 3 and 4 bedroom homes in Shipton by Beningbrough.

Long-lived resident, Mr John Farbrother, shared that the site was once a vital hub of activity, featuring a petrol station, small store and variety of workshops, which were patronised by locals and passing trade and created a whole host of job opportunities.

“Our children earned pocket money to spend there,” he said. “As in the early days of the service station, the village school was located across the road [before it moved to the new building on Station Lane].

“This was an active part of the community and its closure some thirty-odd years ago began a period of optimistic speculation. What would happen next to the site and would it happen in time to save the Post Office or prevent the mass development of greenbelt surroundings?

“The years slipped on by and there were moments when I wondered if we would live long enough to see the next phase. But at last, we raise our glasses to toast the arrival of Mulgrave, confident that the houses built here will be a credit to the village.

“We look forward to welcoming new faces to our community and forgetting the years of dereliction.”
